In the 80's time when was
fashion the Disco music in Caracas, we met in "Las Mercedes" place in the
main street, front of the famous establishment called "El Tranquero" to
share the "dragster competitions", I remember the group that we conformed on
fridays and saturdays in the night to meet in that place and to pass well.
In the time I had a Chevrolet Camaro RS year 1969 with a 350 motor prepared with
12.5 of compression pistons, lifters over wheels, double springs of valves,
crossed spark plug chambers type, cam of 7.500 RPM, gear T10 super, and all
respect to tunning of this time like starter, Axel distributor and spark plugs,
posi-traction with 3.50 relationship, Holley carburetor , Edelbrock
manifold, headers, sound by Pioneer, meters, etc, etc.
In the flavor of the competition where money was bet and in some extreme cases "the
car papers" or only to demonstrate the "power" of our machines we got ready for
the competition in the same main street from the traffic light until the
straight line in front of the Hotel Tamanaco (but of 400 meters) or also already
in that meeting point left for the Guatire town area in a bridge that uses
during a lot of time, in hours of the dawn, practices of dragster races, its
part of below in the freeway from the traffic light are exactly the 400
regulation meters for a competition.
And last, with my friends company we passed some pleasant and exciting times
between the smoke and scent of wheels and high octane gasoline, and where we
learned the tips of competition mechanics.
These competitions that were not run in a closed circuit (Turagua
for example) or other some private circuit and were run directly in the street
are illegal for the local traffic authorities.
